The Brake Link

After adding 2” to the swingarm, the brake link needed the same. I elected to make a new one. The original was made of thin wall tubing. I used 1/8” x ¾” flat, cut to length and duplicated the ends.

This piece would work as is, but for the asthetics and to stiffen it up, I made this forming tool form ½” round and ½” flat. I’m using it with the bottom of my bending brake which is a 5” length of 4” channel with 2 pieces of 1 3/8” barstock welded in the channel.

When doing this, start on one end and press a slight depression then move half the length of the tool and repeat. Work from end to end and take about 3 passes to reach full depth. This helps to keep from raising bumps with the end of the tool.
