The oil tank ends were domed using the planishing hammer to about 1/2" depth with making the ends concave in mind.
Here we have the tank halves with the inside peices tack welded in place. This also provides a better shot of the finish the planishing hammer makes.
The seat pan started with a cardboard pattern, and like the gas tank was hammered out on a block of wood and then planished. Click photos to Enlarge. |

A little more shaping and rolling the edge is all that is needed here. A trial fit was in order to make sure this was going to work out. And yes, that includes sitting on it too.
Here, we also have the cardboard pattern as well as the stainless steel blank that will become the battery box. You can see how a cardboard pattern can save time over doing it by trial and error. |
