With the frame basically complete, other than mounting tabs for the gas tank, oil tank, forward controls, etc., we're ready to tackle what is probably the hardest part of this build. That being a home designed and built springer fork. We started by cutting the triple trees from steel plate with a cutting torch and leaving just enough material for complete clean up. Then machine work was completed to accept the fork tubes and springer legs. Click photos to Enlarge.

Next came the fork tubes which I made from 1 5/8" OD X 3/16" wall steel tubing. This simple setup was placed in the press to squeeze the tubing to an 1 1/4" x 1 7/8" oval. This was accomplished by working the tubing from one end to the other a small amount at a time to maintain concentricity. A pie cut was made on both sides of the upper ends above where the tube passes through the lower triple tree. Then they were pulled together and welded being careful to attain 100% weld penetration forming a nice taper. Next a peice of 1" round bar stock was machined to fit inside the end and welded in place. I'll cover this process more in depth in photos when doing the lower portion of the fork legs. Hey check this out, this thing is actually starting to look like something!
