With the steering head complete, the rear axel brackets were laid out and cut using the circle cutting attachment. After the slots were finished, a fixture was built using angle iron and square tubing to hold the axel with the axel brackets bolted in place. This was then mounted on a peice of 6" x 6" h-beam 52" long. An elaborate frame fixture is not necessary when building a one-off frame. Two peices of 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 24" solid bar stock are clamped 8" apart, centered, and squared with the h-beam. These are used to triangulate measurements. You'll see the frame fixture from different angles as the project progresses. Check back soon for more updates. Click photos to Enlarge.

After bending the frame tubes (which is a how-to that we plan to address later on), we began the process of setting up and assembling the frame on the h-beam fixture. The cross members and backbone tube were cut with the tubing notcher in the background of the first photo. Everything was lined up by triangulating measurements off of the fixture and then tack welded in place. Then it was measured again to ensure that it stayed in place. When building something of this nature, continually taking measurements is a must!
