42. Clamp a 1/2" drill securely to work a table or secure place. Chuck the hammer and run the drill with the lock. Being very careful, use the flat of a good grinding wheel (again) to true the hammer surface. Then use a sanding disc to bring to a smooth surface.

43. This is not necessary, but while chucked, the upper portion of the hammer can be dressed with the edge of the grinding wheel. Again, exercise extreme caution.

44. Hammer, 2" R, and 4" R anvils accurately made without a lathe.

45. Recommended but not absolutely necessary. Use a case hardening compound to give the hammer and anvils longer life. The hammer will need to be re-soldered after this as well.

46. Bring the surface to 1550°F or cherry red and either dip or sprinkle the compound on the working surface.
