
26. Use a black permanent marker for high-spot check. Cover the end surface being squared.

27. Place a 3/4" x 3" bolt (anvil blank) in and pressing the head against the end surface, give it a twist. Where the black is rubbed off is the high spot which is where material needs to be removed. Repeat until good contact all around.

28. Place the bolt in the 3/4" piece, and drive it into the 11/4" piece to 11/4" protrude from the end. Weld in place.

29. Anvils. 3/4" bolts (grade 5) normally have a round shoulder under the head (look for this when buying these). Use this as a guide to grind the head round.

30 & 31 Start by grinding the corners of the hex down to the shoulder which will yeild 12 flats. Then carefully grind the corners of these down to the shoulder.
